Where is the money in Web 2.0?

Published Saturday, 10 January 2009 by Luke Jarzembowski

I recently wrote to me a man who want to start "the portal community . " At the same passcode shivers go down my back and how do I avoid the topic. However, time to face reality - or the "Web 2.0" can you earn?

Every programmer will say: "Well, of course, that can hoho, simply invest in my company, you give money for advertising, etc. - will later be downhill." While I am a programmer (or maybe not?) - I can hardly believe it, "the hill" because not even the Facebook has financial problems .

Of course, not sit in the pocket of Polish social networking sites and do not know if they are profitable, but most of what I've seen seems to have poor prospects for profitability.

For me to earn a trend of "Web 2.0", you must meet at least three conditions:

  1. not to create a portal "for all" Our-class , for example, is "for anyone who went to school and wants to find friends." Understand the difference between "for all" and "for anyone who ..."? Our Target-Class is admittedly a large group (almost all;), but distinguished by the so-called portal. "Offers Unique Feature (UCO) , which is an advantage in competition is not likely to find. The fact that now happen on NK various strange things (fake accounts, make new friends) is like a "side effect" rather than "core bussiness. Generally skupiałbym on niche communities, as did colleague: http://www.ganita.ministrona.com/?p=86
  2. not to create a community by the temptations of money / prizes profit sharing method is tempting, but costly and short-lived (as a stop to share - a community to fall apart.) From what słyszałm Epuls.pl has an interesting business model, which supposedly share profits from advertising, but physically not send any money to users.
  3. "Earn money on advertising" for me is like putting the house on the sand - come to the winds, storms, heavy rain, the crisis, inflation, bans on Google, etc., and everything goes to hell. Would I rather focus on "making money by recommending." Having referred to the community centered around a topic, you can recommend it fit thematically products suppliers arranging to meet the commission on the sale (such affiliate program ;)

This is just my opinion. Before attaching your "social network" even read what this has to say about the author of ebook " e-community . "

I'd even throw in: Do not create a community where the force pushing the only possible "Premium Account". Nothing discouraged, as the "compulsion" to pay. This can be seen in the group (glonie?), Which in addition to a standard garbage can, it gives an even greater mess after 10 zł per month. Mass of people through a farewell forever to the "service". Model can be in this case last.fm. Payment option even hidden from users, and if you want to give something on the tray, is as much as we want. About soooo better approach imo. ;)
