AdTaily pumps the Web 2.0 bubble?

AdTaily a fairly new network of advertising, where publishers set the rate at which it will adopt an ad on your website or blog. And although much has been written about it - throw in your two cents here from the perspective of the advertiser.

I AdTaily tested twice. Once the blog MediaFun when he was "a cheap publicity as a Chinese soup." Later on blogs related to partner programs and making money on blogs.

Unfortunately, in both cases suffering a proverbial / blipowy # fail .

Case # 1

Taking the opportunity of cheap advertising on a popular blog I decided to spend around 5 € for a 3-day "campaign" ;) u MediaFun. Advertised in this way, my passage with ebookami . As shown in the picture below, despite the fact that the blog is over a thousand RSS subscribers, the number of clicks on my ad was very small (only 40).

Unfortunately AdTaily is not (at least for now) statistics on the number of ad impressions, so I will not bode tea leaves or the fault of the poor banner or just in those days had a small audience MediaFun (a fact - just after the weekend of May).

Case # 2

It took some time, and joined to the network a few blogs, where I had more advertising opportunities. So I decided to use 200 zł coupon and make a more "professional" campaign in which mierzyłbym not just click-through rate, but also convert ...

So I threw on Blip request for blogs about affiliate programs and make money on the internet with the help of several people I did a campaign to promote plug-in to make a blog .

The budget was divided roughly evenly on the blogs of Tom Urban , Christopher Fox , Peter Cichosz , Paul Zinkiewicz and Adam Klimowskiego .

The campaign's most wanted me to register with MPP and downloading the free plug-ins for WordPress. In addition, the standard targets were measured, ie purchase your ebook (and in fact, only adding to cart, it is difficult to measure precisely the goal PP) and download a free passage.

Results.

Together with the whole campaign I noted 212 visits (~ 1zł CPC) and, unfortunately, only three (say - three) main conversions (rejestacja in MPP), a full conversion (registration + download and use plug-in) I had two (CPA ~ $ 100).

Just as I suspected the best "converts" a blog was the blog of Tom Urban (it came with all registrations), the second place went to Chris Fox, of which command a few people have downloaded the plug and Peter Cichosz.

Advertise on Bynajmniej.pl and AdamKlimowski.pl have been totally misguided. And this is both for the main and additional (no one even took a free e-book).

Conclusions.

How confident singing famous twins (non-political and non-TV series) "Nobody Loves Me Like This is lazy." Some Polish bloggers so, for fear of insults , highly valued the ads on their pages. Unfortunately, these are completely at the rate of conversion that advertisers expect, so I hope that the "market" will bring them to the ground (I checked - has brought ;). The other work on " making money on the blog "was limited only to insert the widget AdTaily.

And although some of the bloggers in person (by Blip) asked for the inclusion of new post (not advertising - just an entry) in the period of advertisement to get to their regular readers - it was met with poor response . Could the money is not motivated to blog?

My fault.

I admit that EbookInfo.pl is not some super-hyper innovative product that readers MediaFun porwałby crowds. So I will survive these 5 zł "drowned" in the ad on his blog. Plugin for WordPress is in turn not so simple to use tool to achieve a high conversion rate. But I have some concerns that AdTaily in the long run will meet the needs of advertisers. Is not it better to immediately pay for the effect ?

In the current phase of development AdTaily I dare say that this network is pumping Web 2.0 bubble. Advertisers are forced to buy ads "blind", mostly on blogs that they read. Payment is "above", and the accuracy with which the scenes are presented sites can be satisfied only big media houses. For small advertisers, it is important that gets 5 001 and 9 999 hits. Moreover, it is not possible to track the actual number of views your ad, or guarantee that anyone will see the ad (for example, a widget can be placed in the footer or somewhere off-screen).

Proposals for the repair.

Apart from the poor performance of my campaign AdTaily, I think it would be worth to the company introduced the following improvements:

  • actual payment for your ad or guarantee unique ad impressions
  • information about the number of impressions and number of unique users who saw the ad (even for non advertisers)
  • guarantee entry widget in the first screenshot of the page ("above the fold")

Proposals for future advertisers

My "campaign" may perhaps serve as an example of how not to advertise by AdTaily. So if you're planning to spend on the network more than 100 zł, use my experience:

  • first test, then buy - made ​​a fundamental error by dividing the entire budget at once on all the blogs. At the same time I realized that some are quite risky. If I limited the delivery of ads for "risky blogs" probably uzyskałbym better effect on blogs more relevant topics.
  • create a good looking ad - unfortunately at the end of my "campaign" on the company blog post was published an interesting how to effectively use the 125px ^ 2 - I must admit that my ads were not 100% compatible with this text and this may be one of the reasons this failure
  • the knowledge of others - even later, also on the company blog post came to buy advertising AdTaily - the reading I recommend especially advertisers with a larger budget
  • Have a great product - now AdTaily widget is placed mainly on the blogs. A blog readers a very demanding community , and apparently are not interested in the products have long been available on the Web. I think the campaigns more innovative products wypadłyby better ...

From my observations it appears that the current system is more AdTaily exchange links / banners between bloggerami than effective e-marketing tool. And you? Have you noticed / you led a campaign e-commerce'ową by AdTaily? What gave the results?
